The puma has the most names among mammals. They have over 40 recognized English names, some of which are cougar, mountain lion, deer tiger, mountain screamer, Indian devil and purple feather.

Equipped with long hind limbs, the puma is well known for its extraordinary jumping ability. It can jump from a height of 18m and its record long jump is 11.7m.

Blessed with a lean body and long hind legs, the puma is built to leap, scale trees and sprint. Employing its excellent vision, hearing and olfaction, it stalks its prey with a deadly silence. Powerful leaps are made in pursuit of prey. Its hind limbs are longer than the forelimbs, an adaptation for jumping and negotiating steep canyons and ravines.
