Animal Exhibits

Primate Kingdom

The Primate Kingdom consists of six large and two small moated islands which house several species of attractive monkeys including the lion-tailed macaques, patas monkeys, brown capuchins, Celebes macaques, douc langurs, black spider monkeys and Golden-Lion Tamarins.

The landscaping in Primate Kingdom epitomises our efforts in creating natural habitats for the animals. Tall trees, long wild grasses, gingers, palms and bamboo are used to recreate a lush rainforest. The sides of the moat are sprayed with coloured concrete implanted with tree roots to resemble an eroded riverbank.

The moats are filled with various species of fish , the most impressive being the South American arapiama. It is one of the largest fish in the world and can grow up to four metres in length.

Gibbons, Spider Monkeys, Chimpanzees and Mandrills

Apart from the orang utans and the inhabitants of the Primate Kingdom, we also display primates including two species of gibbons, the black howler monkey, red ruffed lemurs, the chimpanzees and the mandrills in lush, naturalistic enclosures. `Furniture' to simulate the animals' natural behaviour are frequently used. Such items include ropes strung across trees for the gibbons and spider monkeys to swing and climbing platforms for the amusement of the chimpanzees and mandrills.

Other Primate Exhibits

Our other primate exhibits include the Treetops Trail and free-ranging tamarins, langurs, lemurs and white-faced saki monkeys.
